Mallika Sarabhai Political Speech
Noted danseuse and Padma Shri award winner, Mallika Sarabhai, will be contesting elections against LK Advani from Gandhinagar. She announced her intention to contest the Lok Sabha polls as an independent candidate from Gujarats Gandhinagar parliamentary seat and take on L.K.Advani, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate. She added that she will represent the “secular forces”.
Sarabhai is the daughter of classical dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai and the renowned space scientist, late Vikram Sarabhai. She has been a staunch critic of Chief Minister Narendra Modi since the 2002 Godhra riots in which nearly 1,500 people were killed.
Contesting under the banner of ‘Friends for Democracy’ and supported by social activists and NGOs, Sarabhai claims Gandhinagar is her home as she was born and brought up in the city.
