Congress faces heat in Andhra Pradesh

Diehard battle for first phase of Lok Sabha elections is in progress in two union territories and 15 states including politically crucial Andhra Pradesh. The state comprises 42 Parliamentary Constituencies. Hustings are underway in 22 LS seats out of 42.
For Congress-led UPA, Andhra Pradesh will play significant role to retain the power. Therefore, the Congress left no stone unturned to woo voters.
The Congress party is looking to repeat the 2004 performance in the state. But the political equations have been changed dramatically in the state with the emergence of Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party. Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP is another reason to worry for Congress while Telengana Rashtrya Samithi, which parted away from the UPA coalition over the separate Telengana state, will also create hindrances.
The Congress leadership is aware of the mighty presence of Chandrababu Naidu’s Telagudesham Party in the state. Naidu is an experienced politician. Skillfully, he moved to third front and has fielded candidates against the Congress.
Undoubtedly, these candidates sought votes, exposing drawbacks of Andhra’s ruling Congress government. The Congress is already feeling the heat of anti-incumbency.
South Indian Film Star Chiranjeevi is making his political debut with his recently floated political outfit Praja Rajyam Party. Though, the party is new, Chiranjeevi is sure to open account in this elections.
His intense campaigning and star status may put him in a strong political position after May 16.
Congress seems to be surrounded in its South bastion-Andhra Pradesh. New political equations have surged.
All these factors are there to impact the polls. If Congress fails to increase its tally in the state, it will be a major setback to the party, who is expecting to retain the power at Delhi.
