Roja, Aruna hubbies fight for their victory

The Telugu Desam candidate from Chandragiri Assembly constituency, Ms Roja, her rival and minister for health, Ms Galla Aruna Kumari, and the Praja Rajyam contestant from Chandragiri, Ms S. Sai Ramani Reddy, have one thing in common. Their husbands are sweating it out for their victory. When male candidates contest the elections, their spouses take up campaign to garner the support of people. However, now husbands are vigorously canvassing for votes on behalf of their wives. This is a new trend in the political landscape of the state.
The Chandragiri seat in Chittoor district, from which all major political parties like the Congress, TD, PR and the BJP have fielded women candidates, bears witness to this trend.
The minister for health, Ms Galla Aruna Kumari’s husband, Mr Galla Ramachandra Naidu, a business tycoon, is frequently seen on the roads seeking votes for his wife. Even as his wife is touring the the constituency, Mr Ramachandra Naidu is knocking every door and explaining to voters about the developmental works taken up by Ms Aruna in that constituency and seeking the voters’ support for her re-election.
Similarly, Mr R.K.Selvamani, a noted film director in Tamil tinseltown and Roja’s husband, has also set up camp in Chandragiri. Mr Selvamani, along with his friends, is helping Ms Roja in her campaign . Like a seasoned politician, this film director goes along the lanes in the dusty villages of Chandragiri constituency to canvass for his wife.
“I can’t forget the support extended by my husband during the campaign. He wants to see me as a good public representative,” Ms Roja said.
