Transfer Chittoor SP, says PR

The Praja Rajyam on Wednesday demanded transfer of K. Lakshmi Reddy, Chittoor Superintendent of Police, holding him responsible for the incidents in Tirupati when police tried to search the hotel room in which party president K. Chiranjeevi and his family was staying.
At separate press conferences here senior PR leaders contended that their faith in Chief Electoral Officer I.V. Subba Rao and Director-General of Police A.K. Mohanty would be intact only if the SP was transferred before 7 a.m. on Thursday.
Yuva Rajyam president Pawan Kalyan regretted the way the Congress and the TDP were going all out to deny a fledgling Praja Rajyam its rightful political space and stifling democracy.
Misguiding youth
Lashing out at the Congress and the TDP, he said they were clearly trying to misguide the youth and to poison young minds against a party that had attracted people’s attention with change and an improved society sans corruption as its unique selling proposition.
“Both the parties will realise it the hard way as to what would happen if the potential of the youth was not channelised for the good of society,” he warned.
Party general secretary P. Vinay Kumar, who returned from Tirupati in the evening, said he was shocked at the unruly and undemocratic behaviour of the Congress.
“Yes, we are new to politics. If we were experts, we would be sitting in dharna against the anti-social actions of ruling party leaders, not the other way round,” he rued.
P. Upendra, K.S.R. Murthy and general secretary C. Uma Malleswara Rao regretted that the president of a recognised party was being subjected to such treatment. They wondered if police would search the residences of Chief Minister Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy and Mr. Chandrababu Naidu.
Plea to EC
Mr. Upendra urged the Election Commission to ensure that the Central forces were deployed for poll duty at least in key constituencies, like Pulivendula, Kuppam, Tirupati and Palacole, where contestants included Dr. Reddy, Mr. Chiranjeevi and Mr. Naidu. While appreciating the actions of Mr. Subba Rao and Mr. Mohanty, they said the officers needed to deal with ‘undemocratic forces’ with an iron hand. They alleged that the Congress and the TDP had come together in a last-ditch attempt to deny victory to the Praja Rajyam. “But people are with us and will give us the strength to cross the magic figure,” they asserted.
