PRP good show upsets Srihari Telangana plan

Ironical it is but the one Telugu Desam leader who strongly pushed party chief N Chandrababu Naidu into forging an alliance with the TRS, Kadiam Srihari, has himself lost the Assembly seat.

A former minister, Srihari was defeated in Station Ghanpur constituency in Warangal district by Congress nominee T Rajaiah by over 10,000 votes. The PRP nominee here, A Ramesh, polled an impressive 25,000 votes and that could have tilted the balance in favour of the Congress.

Srihari, along with Erraballi Dayakar Rao, also from Warangal district, was among the Telangana TDP leaders who not only forced Naidu to change the party’s stance in favour of a separate State but also insisted on an alliance with the TRS.
Dayakar Rao, however, managed to scrape through with a margin of over 2,000 votes in Palakurthy. What could have helped him here was that the PRP candidate polled only 7,000 votes.

In fact, the grapevine has it that both of them entertained hopes of ruling the Telangana state in the event of Telugu Desam forming the government in the State but only with the help of TRS in which case the party might be forced to concede the demand for statehood. Neither has this happened nor has the BJP, which promised a Telangana state within 100 days of coming to power in Delhi, managed to win at the Centre.
