The high voltage developments in the last 24 hours leading to the arrest of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and 74 other legislators has sparked off a serious reaction in the cadre of the TDP. The party has given a call for demonstrations across the state on Sunday and also threatened a bandh on Monday.
Demanding that the party leaders be allowed to go to Babli site, TDP activists staged dharnas across the state on Saturday, raised slogans against Maharashtra and AP governments and burnt effigies of Ashok Chavan. Some activists even tried to storm the Secretariat in the evening but were rounded up by the police.
Tension prevailed near Dharmabad on the border when a large number of TDP activists gathered and sat on dharna. The road was barricaded and blocked with barbed wires by Maharashtra police.
“While all parties in Maharashtra, including the BJP, stood united and staged a dharna in front of the ITI at Dharmabad in support of the Babli project, it is unfortunate that here the same parties were not willing to come together and are blaming the TDP of politicizing the issue. The state government too refuses to come out of its deep slumber,” said senior leaders N Janardhan Reddy, M V Mysura Reddy, Y Ramakrishnudu and others.
