Unfazed by the sharp divisions in the Mahakutami (Grand Alliance), the CPI state secretary, Mr K. Narayana, has once against put forward his pet idea of sharing power with the Praja Rajyam in case of a hung House.

Mr Narayana feels this arrangement is essential for the stability of a non-Congress formation. The proposal is hypothetical, yet it can be discussed about, he added.

He has not discussed the proposal with either the Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, or Chiranjeevi.

Six months ago, Mr Narayana suggested sharing the Chief Minister’s post equally among Mr Naidu and Chiranjeevi.

He is reiterating the idea for the second time now as there is a possibility of a hung House.

Mr Narayana, who sounded optimistic, told mediapersons on Monday that the TD-led Grand Alliance would emerge victorious with a comfortable margin, trouncing the Congress and the Praja Rajyam.

In the same breath, he added that it would be better if the Grand Aliance and the PR strike a power sharing deal for a stable government in case a hung House emerges and scuttle the chances of the Congress forming a government.

He added: “It depends on how many seats the PR and the Grand Alliance will get. But in case the PR gets anywhere between 70 and 80 seats, it would be better for Mr Naidu and Chiranjeevi to share the Chief Minister’s post equally, (for two-and-a-half-years each) with their own agendas.”

“If the PR, Grand Alliance or even Congress gets majority on its own, we have to honour the people’s verdict, but if no party reaches the halfway mark, we have to search for alternatives,” he added.

If a situation arises where a Third Front is in a position to form the government, there is nothing wrong if the PR and Grand Alliance comes together to prevent the Congress from forming the government in the state.

Reacting to Mr Narayana’s proposal, the senior PR leader, Mr Ch. Harirama Jogaiah, said: “Anything is possible in politics. We are hopeful of forming the government on our own, but a proposal like making Chiranjeevi the CM here in lieu of our MPs’ support at the Centre is welcome.”

Ever since the first wave of voting has been completed, there is a lot of talk over who could be the possible gainers from it. For now, it looks like all the fingers are being pointed towards the Mahakootami party and they say that the Telangana region has been quite strong with their presence and so the initial lead will be taken by them.

Though it is being said that the crucial phase now happens on the 23rd many say that the wind has been flowing towards the Mahakootami direction and second in line seems to be the Praja Rajyam Party given the strong presence and following for Chiru in the coastal belt.

While all this is happening, the Congress loyalists have been mentioning that all this is just a discussion and the truth is Congress will comfortably emerge as the sole leaders with majority since their works have already impressed the people.
Also, given the fact that Congress is quite strong in the Rayalaseema region, it is a tough task to shake them out of their roots, as per the senior experts. Congress has been facing severe allegations of corruption not just from the oppositions but also from the common public and a stark example for that could be got from the rising prices, the over hyped real estate market that crashed and the highly poor quality of civil and irrigation projects that have been given big numbers on the paper but the real activity is terribly low in standards.

This would prove very hazardous in the time to come since such projects are quite crucial for the development of the state. Also, the Mahakootami folks have realized the essence of winning the confidence of the people through their past lessons and realizing the awareness the voters have got. So let us wait till the month of May to see what the people have decided.

The mainstream political parties have started segment-wise analysis of the winning prospects of their party candidates in the first phase of elections.

All the parties are convinced that they will win majority of the seats in the first phase and have an upper hand in the second phase of elections which will be held on April 23.

Speculative reports in the regional media, based on poll trends gave a clear lead to the Grand Alliance led by the Telugu Desam. Out of the 154 Assembly seats, the reports suggest that the GA will get anywhere between 100 to 110 seats. The lead is attributed to the successful promotion of the colour TVs and Cash Transfer Schemes. The reports prompted the TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, to issue advertisements in select vernacular newspapers thanking voters for “reimposing the confidence in him and thanking them for helping the party win.”

He also said the new schemes announced by him had gone well in the polls. The TD chief told party leaders to focus on the remaining seats without being complacent. The internal assessment of the party was that it will win 80 out of the 154 Assembly seats. It requires another 70 to get a majority.

On account of these projections, several Congressmen contesting the second phase of elections, enquired from their counterparts in Telangana about the prospects of the party.

Meanwhile, sources in the intelligence department gave a report on the poll trends orally to the Chief Minister. It gave 18 to 20 seats to the Congress in the north coastal region, and 40-45 seats in the Telangana region. It projected that the GA would have a small edge over the Congress in the Telangana region, and gave 60 seats to the alliance and another six to eight seats in the north coastal area.

Not being a narcissist, I was surprised by my sudden urge to look into the magic mirror. I was more surprised to see myself sitting idle in an Indiramma house and watching colour TV. Someone looking official knocked the door, entered and gave me Rs 2000.
Is this the state of affairs to come after General Election 2009 which viciously violates my fundamental right to live with dignity, equality before law and right to work guaranteed by the Constitution of India (CoI)?

When I am exercising my right to franchise, I am electing a representative from my constituency, who will uphold the CoI, perform within the purview of the Laws of the Land and generously indulge in good governance so that my fundamental rights are not violated and I can work, earn and make both ends meet, so that I can walk with my head held high.

Just because I am a white ration card holder, am I entitled to live in a free house, watch colour TV and freely get Rs 2000 per month which is paid to me from the taxes paid by honest citizens from their hard earned salaries or profits?

Is giving out doles to white ration card holders not violation of the CoI guaranteed fundamental right of equality before law and the right to livelihood? Aren’t the non-white card holders discriminated against?

If giving money, liquor and other freebies before the voting day to purchase someone’s vote is an offence, then how come giving Colour TV and Rs 2000 per month after getting elected is right and lawful? Bribe or any corrupt inducement does not change its definition by the affix of BEFORE and suffix of AFTER

Citizens of India, beware of power-hungry wolves in sheep’s clothing who are promising the moon to usurp authority bereft of responsibility.

Do surely cast your vote. But, choose someone who is worthy of your right to vote.

s Mahakootami of four political parties heading for a disaster? Yes, says none other than CPI State secretary K Narayana, one of the alliance partners.

Setting aside his hypocricy, Narayana said it is unfortunate that none of the alliance partners was following “coalition dharma” and had fielded candidates in the seats allotted to others. The CPI-M candidate is contesting in Mangalagiri, while TRS candidate is refusing to withdraw from contest at Husnabad, both allotted to the CPI. “If the parties in a coalition do not respect each other, then Mahakootami has to face vinashanam (disaster),” he said.

Narayana, you are right. People have already understood it. But, are you following the coalition dharma? Question yourself.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu’s grand alliance or Mahakootami, as the media dubbed it, is now in total disarray.

Naidu formed the grand opposition alliance with his TDP, TRS, CPI and CPM with the ostentatious aim of defeating the Congress party. They touted themselves as the Third Front in Indian politics.

With great fanfare, they conducted seat sharing negotiations. Finally, each party was adamant for its own share of seats and forgot the overall objective of the Mahakootami.

First, the TRS unilaterally announced its candidates in the constituencies of its choice. Then CPM followed suit and issued B forms to its candidates. The CPI looked dazed but released its own list.

Today, the last day of filing nominations, TDP issued B forms to its candidates to file their nominations in constituencies originally reserved by Mahakootami to TRS, CPM and CPI.

Though the leaders of all the four parties say that negotiations are still in progress as some may withdraw their candidature, the possibility appears to be remote.

There are reports that Naidu became tough with his Mahakootami allies on seat sharing after the phenomenal success of the election campaign of NTR Jr.
There are allegations that K Chandrasekhar Rao sold the seats to the incumbents. The TRS candidate for Secunderabad LS constituency is said to have publicly admitted that he paid Rs 10 Crore to KCR to get his seat. This issue had gone to the notice of Election Commission which had taken a suo motu decision to investigate into the issue.

To add insult to injury, rebel candidates of TDP and TRS also filed their nominations, while there is an exodus of activists to other parties from CPM and CPI.
Even as Mahakootami lies in tatters, the question is, which voter is going to trust any of the constituent parties of Mahakootami?

It looks like that the ultimate electoral battle in the ensuing general elections is between Congress and the Praja Rajyam Party.

In all probability, the CPI-M might walk out of the Grand Allaince that consists of Telugu Desam, Telangana Rastra Samithi, CPI and the CPI-M. The CPI-M leadership is sore with the TD for not conceding its demand for allocation of four Assembly seats for the party.

The CPI-M has staked claim for Warangal East, Wyra, Patancheru and Mangalagiri Assembly segments. However, the TRS is firm on contesting from the Warangal East, while the CPI is unwilling to leave Wyra and Mangalagiri segments. The TD is not prepared to lose Patancheru segment. The TD chief, Chandrababu Naidu had advised the CPI-M leaders to be flexible in seat sharing. In fact, the TD chief had also asked the CPI-M to accept the present status and promised to give one Rajya Sabha seat or three MLC seats after the elections.

However, the CPI-M is unyielding and had turned down the offer and said the party would go ahead with its decision to contest in all the four seats. The CPI-M State secretary, B V Raghavulu, who proposed the Grand Alliance and took initiative for a tie-up with the Telugu Desam, said that he would not accept the TD’s proposal. He insisted that the GA should leave the four seats for the CPI-M.

Going by the serious tone of the CPI-M leadership on these four seats and the equal strong demand from the CPI and TRS, it is almost certain that the CPI-M would field its candidates in these segments and fight on its own, thus walking out of the GA.

The CPI secretary, Mr K. Narayana, expressed unhappiness over the TD president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu’s, decision to allot only 14 Assembly seats to the Left ally. “We are unhappy at the way our party has been treated. We deserve more seats. But in the interests of alliance, we are accepting it,” Mr Narayana said.

The CPI(M) leader, Mr B.V. Raghavulu, too expressed displeasure over delay in finalising the seats for the party. He alleged TRS was being favoured.

Meanwhile, protests by those who did not get the tickets continued. Sources in the TD said that actor Krishna was in touch with Mr Naidu over allotment of tickets to brother Adiseshagiri Rao and wife Vijayanirmala. Rumours are also afloat that former minister Mareappa may also join the TD.
