Chiranjeevi arrives in Vizag to a warm welcome by tribals

MUNCHINGPUT (VISAKHAPATNAM DT.): Tribals mobbed Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi at anthrax-hit Barda village, in Laxmipuram panchayat, in this mandal, about 190 km from Visakhapatnam, on Wednesday.

The actor-politician — who arrived at Munchingput by helicopter and later drove to Barda to interact with the patients — was accorded a rousing reception by the tribals. They thronged the nondescript village, located on the Andhra-Orissa border, and raised slogans in his support, ignoring his pleas. Several youth addressed him as ‘kaboye mukhyamantri’ (would-be Chief Minister).
Chiru’s concern

Mr. Chiranjeevi expressed concern over the plight of tribals and blamed the ruling party for failing to educate them and provide medicare. “It’s unfortunate that tribals are dying like flies due to malaria, viral fever and other infections,” he bemoaned.

In an oblique reference to holidaying by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu, he said, “It is not the time to relax when tribals are dying due to various diseases.”

Mr. Chiranjeevi, who was scheduled to fly back to Hyderabad, could not go due to inclement weather. Heavy rain lashed the agency belt making it difficult to fly. Tribal women applied turmeric on his forehead and offered garlands.

Earlier, he visited Lobburu primary health centre and interacted with medical officer G. Janardhanam.

Candidate performance reports irk Chiranjeevi

The Praja Rajyam Party’s exercise to analyse the polling trends has reached farcical proportions, embarrassing party president Chianjeevi to no end.
Though he is appealing to the contestants repeatedly to state their prospects honestly, the candidates are making out as if they are going to register landslide victory even in inhospitable constituencies.
To ensure that the party president would get a clear idea as to how youth and women had voted for the party, the leaders distributed proformas to them to enter the details of percentage of polling of youth, women and so on. But the candidates who apparently did not make any analysis of the polling pattern in their constituencies, copied the details from others’ proformas only to escape the ire of the party president.
Chiranjeevi began Assemblywise analysis of the party’s performance recently. On day one he interacted with the candidates of three districts and found that they were not coming out with critical analysis and decided to hasten the exercise. Candidates are trying to keep the party president in good humor by claiming that the party would win at least 8 seats in every district.
More ridiculous are some comments made by some candidates that the party would win Kuppam seat, represented by Telugu Desam party president N Chandrababu Naidu and Rapthadu constituency from where Paritala Sunitha is contesting.
Kadapa district candidates were so confident that party would win 8 seats in the bastion of the Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
With such a `fabulous’ feedback even Chiranjeevi was reportedly annoyed over the performance reports.
Though the party has asked the candidates to spell out the problems they had faced in the run up to polls and the factors that had worked on the poll day, the poll pattern and suggestions to improve the party, no candidate has applied their minds and came up with the details.

Chiranjeevi’s Voice In Mobile Phones

Don’t be surprised if you hear the voice of megastar Chiranjeevi on your mobile but at the same time, don’t start responding to him thinking he is on the other line. This is part of the megastar’s canvassing process as part of the elections that is causing a surprise and also some confusion.

It is said that a voice message is being sent to many mobile users so when they take a call, it is Chiru greeting and saying’ hello, this is your Chiranjeevi speaking, please vote for PRP blah blah..’. At the onset, many are thinking that it is a live call and are reacting to Chiru’s voice only to realize it is not so.

On the other hand, there are those who are expressing annoyance since they would be in the middle of something important and attend to the call thinking it is important only to hear the voice of Chiru and his typical accent urging one and all to vote for his party. It remains to be seen if his ‘voice’ will bring any ‘Marpu’ or not.

Mega Star Chiranjeevi’s party out of the race for power?

With hardly any time left for the first phase of polling in Andhra Pradesh Thursday, the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi appears to be out of the race for power but may emerge as a king maker in the event of elections throwing up the state’s first-ever hung assembly.

In an indication of the shape of things to come, Chiranjeevi Sunday cancelled his meetings in Khammam and Nizamabad in the Telangana region due to poor public response.

Though a key region for any party to come to power, Telangana has not been the priority of the superstar. He is instead concentrating on coastal Andhra, the region he comes from.

Till last week, Chiranjeevi and his brothers – actors Pavan Kalyan and Naga Babu – held no road shows in Telangana, which sends 119 legislators to the 294-member assembly and accounts for 17 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

The field reports also suggest that the party has no presence in Telangana, where the main fight is between ruling Congress party and the Grand Alliance led by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

The spate of resignations by leaders over the manner in which tickets for assembly and Lok Sabha elections were distributed and allegations made by Prakala Prabhakar while quitting as general secretary have already rattled the PRP, which was floated in August last year with the slogan of social justice.

Chiranjeevi, known as a sensitive person who finds it difficult to swallow criticism, was shaken by the events of the last few days, especially the resignation of Prabhakar, who claimed that the party leadership sold the tickets.

With nearly a million turnout at his first meeting at Tirupati on Aug 26 last year, the 54-year-old Chiranjeevi had taken the state politics by storm.

Political analysts had forecast that he would break the record of legendary actor N.T. Rama Rao, who came to power within nine months of launching the TDP in 1982.

But the party does not seem to be in the reckoning for power, if one goes by the field reports and the party’s campaign.

Political pundits said the failure of the actor to build the organisation was the main reason for the PRP not emerging as a serious contender for power.

‘After the meeting at Tirupati, he did nothing for two months. He could have used this period to build the organisation. There is a leader at the top and there are followers, fans and well wishers at the bottom. There is no party structure in between,’ said G. Chakrapani, a political expert.

Analysts said Chiranjeevi committed the mistake of admitting anybody quitting TDP and Congress into the party, instead of building new and young leadership at the grassroot level.

Despite exuding confidence of coming to power, Chiranjeevi appears to have sensed the public mood and reconciled to the situation. He is focussing only on coastal Andhra, especially on four districts where the Kapu community, to which he belongs, has considerable presence.

He is hoping for a good performance in East Godavari, Krishna and parts of north coastal Andhra besides his native district of West Godavari.

The actor is now said to be eyeing the role of king maker by winning as many assembly seats as possible in coastal Andhra. If his party bags 50 to 60 seats, it could hold the key for power in the event of a hung assembly, which looks possible with no wave in favour of any party.

Congress, Telugu Desam Rule out PRP effect

Both the Congress and the Telugu Desam believe that Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam would not get more than 30 seats and 15 per cent of the vote. Each party agrees that the PR will eat into its vote bank, but says that the other one will be worst affected.
The TD chief spokesperson, Prof. Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, told this correspondent that the TD would lose 5 to 6 per cent of votes to the PR, which would get 12-15 per cent of the vote. The rest would come from the Congress.
The PCC general secretary, Mr Gidugu Rudraraju, claimed that while the Praja Rajyam would get around 15 per cent vote, the TD would lose 10 per cent and the rest would come from the Congress.
Both leaders said the PR influence would be almost negligible in Telangana and in many segments in Rayalaseema. The PR would be confined to the coastal belt from Srika-kulam to Nellore due to its influence over certain castes and groups.
“I believe there is a rethinking by youth and by members of the Kapu community which is predominant in the areas that prefer Chiranjeevi,” Mr Venka-teswarlu said. “They believe there is no chance of his becoming Chief Minister. They are wise, they will prefer us to the Congress.”
“Chiranjeevi wields some influence among the traditional Congress voters in Krishna, Guntur, Praksam and Nellore districts but not to the extent of damaging our prospects,” Mr Rudraraju said.
“Now those sections are realising there is no possibility of Chiranjeevi becoming Chief Minister, and they are coming back to our fold,” he said.
Both parties fear Chiran-jeevi will cut into more than 20 per cent of their votes in the 34 seats in West and East Godavari districts.
In 2004, the Congress had got 1,37,93,461 votes or 38.58 per cent, against the TD’s 1,34,44,168 votes and 37.60 per cent share.

Chiru PRP Manifesto Important Points
PRP Chief announced the election manifesto on Monday in a crowded conference and appealed that these are the promises made to answer people’s tough life issues and not just made for the elections alone. He also said that he finds the manifesto having great acceptance for its party will be received well and people know that it is only PRP can bring in the much in need change in the politics of the State and lives of the people.

Some of the highlights of the manifesto promises are

1. Groceries for Rs. 100/- only
2. Domestic Gas Supply
3. Interest free loans to Dwakra Group members
4. Stipend of Rs.1000/- to unemployed
5. Free power for 10 hours to the farmers
6. Pension of Rs.3000/- to all farmers who have crossed 55 years of age

With announcing a lion share of seats for the backward castes, PRP has already set tone for the objective of social justice, and this manifesto will only justify the efforts. He also assured that PRP dreams to develop the modular frame work of “Gram Swaraj”, an reference from Gandhi with collective efforts. PRP chief also faced tough questions over the top leaders leaving the party for the last 2 days with dissent and many other top leaders are about to follow the same route and the list includes Mitra, samara, Upendra and Parakala for not being given right recognition in the party and not being given tickets to contest elections.
The actor also had a close door meeting with Amar Singh and actor Sunjay Dutt of SP and speaking to the press later he said PRP and SP are interested to work together in New Delhi with an idea of setting up a new front which is equi-distant from NDA, UPA and Third Front.

After keeping his partymen and the people in suspense for several weeks, Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi at last released his party’s election manifesto on Monday.

And people who expected that Chiranjeevi would announce some astonishing schemes were disappointed thoroughly. He quietly said there was absolutely no difference between the draft manifesto and the final one – the schemes and programmes announced in the draft would continue without any changes.

Why the hell then did he delay release of manifesto for so many days? Already, the other parties have given enough publicity to their manifestos and went into the people telling what they would do. It was really surprising why Chiranjeevi did not think of any innovative schemes.

Perhaps, he was handicapped by the non-cooperation of members of manifesto committee, who were denied tickets in the elections. Neither Sivasankar nor Anjaneya Reddy was present at the release of manifesto. Only Upendra and K S R Murthy were there, but they, too, were gloomy and disappointed.

Fourth front will be formed at Centre: Chiranjeevi

Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) chief Chiranjeevi on Sunday said there was a likelihood of a fourth front emerging at the Centre after the general election.

“My feeling is that why should a fourth front not be formed at the Centre. Those parties which are opposed to the current formations can join hands with us to from the fourth front,” Chiranjeevi told reporters here.

He said the PRP would not support the BJP-led NDA, it would also not support the UPA as the Congress is their main rival in Andhra Pradesh. “Since we are also opposed to the TDP there is no question of supporting the Third Front either, ” Chiranjeevi added.

The PRP Chief asserted that voters of the state would give a clear verdict in this month’s election and ruled out a split verdict. Asked which party would the PRP support or which party support it would take in case of a hung assembly Chiranjeevi said such scenario could be ruled out completely.

“The people are very clear and there is no confusion in their minds,” he observed.

Asked if he would make a dalit the chief minister if PRP was voted to power, Chiranjeevi replied it all depended on the peoples wish. If the people wanted Chiranjeevi would become the chief minister or a dalit could occupied that post, he added.

KRR, Ashwini Dutt Keeping Away From Chiranjeevi

It has often been seen that the election scenario in Andhra Pradesh has been connected with the film industry in one way or the other. This time, it took a very different degree with megastar Chiranjeevi joining politics and it has literally created several groups among the Tollywood circuit.

It is known news that ‘Mouna Muni’ K Raghavendra Rao and Ashwini Dutt have been close associates of Chiru when it comes to movies. But now, there seems to be a gap they are maintaining since both are said to be busy with few anti-Chiru stints.
