When it comes to reel life, megastar Chiranjeevi was one man who was the ruling emperor of Tollywood and he was on the throne for more than a decade. However, things do not look to be the same when it comes to real life and one truth that has been expressed by many is that there is no Chiranjeevi without his brother in law and the mastermind Allu Aravind.

This is no exaggeration in the views as many incidents that took place in the Praja Rajyam Party that has been founded by Chiru had demonstrated. Apart from that, many internal sources that work with the PRP have confirmed that Chiru does not even turn his head unless he takes a word of advice from his brother in law.

Now, Chiru has got a rather difficult situation at hand now as he is all set to enter the assembly and at the same time, he does not have Allu around since he lost. So many are waiting to see as to what or how will Chiru speak with his mere presence at the assembly. Many are also imagining a situation when chief minister Y S R could show his natural aggression and cut Chiru to size which would wipe the entire fame and charisma that Chiru developed from few decades. It is known that Chiru is more attached to image and respect than anything else.

It must be recalled that during the Vajrotsavam time, the tussle that broke out between Chiru and Mohan Babu. Chiru is said to have taken few minutes off before giving his response, he then discussed the matter with Aravind and is said to have uttered exactly those words that Aravind had prepared for. Coming back to the assembly, Chiru might face the risk of facing ragging from congress, TDP and he would not have his Allu Aravind around.

If Chiru keeps quiet he will be treated as dud and people forget him for ever. If he speaks, he needs to have thorough knowledge. Otherwise Rosiah may say, “Koorchovayya Chiranjeevi…idhemi cinema shooting kaadu chethikochchina dialogue evado raasisthe nuvvu notikochchinattu chadavadaaniki…’ And YSR may say, “Bavamaridi lekundaa nuvvu maatladalevule kaani…paruvupoka munde koorchunte manchidi”. Chandrababu may say, “edi maatladina logic tho undaali..chiranjeevi laa kaadu”.

Where Chiru keeps his head if those situations arise? Can he give retort? Or spoils his health and becomes an absentee in Assembly.

His image importance might be at jeopardy and many are wondering whether Chiru will keep look around or will he talk? Even better, there are those who say that he might take a break during the proceedings, calls Allu on mobile and then comes back with an answer or a statement. It will be interesting to see Chiru in the assembly now.

After loosing the elections, Krishnam Raju never seen at thePRP prty office. When the postmartem on defeat is going on at PRP office with all senior members of the party, Krishnam Raju never attended these meetings.

All of a sudden Krisham Raju met YSR at latter’s camp office and congratulated YSR for winning the elections.

The wise men always say that there is a stark difference between real life and reel life and that holds good even for the film stars who tried their hand at politics and fell flat on the ground. The political experts say that stars do not have anything to offer in terms of ideology and instead they reduce politics to a mere spectacle of glamour. It’s been a flop show at the polls for almost all the South Indian film stars. This is said to have caused a major embarrassment to all the party chiefs who were vouching that the presence of cine glamour really works.

The classic example for that is Rebel star of Kannada industry Ambareesh who lost from Mandya constituency, then there is the actor-activist Ashok along with actor-producer CP Yogeshwar who lost from the Bangalore Rural constituency. Coming to Tollywood, a total of Twelve Telugu film stars contested the elections in Andhra Pradesh this year. Out of them, only four – Chiranjeevi, Vijayashanthi, Jayasudha and film producer Kodali Nani emerged triumphant.

Expressing his views was V N Subba Rao, the noted journalist and political analyst who said that Indian voters have become quite mature and smart in choosing their candidates. He also added that they are not carried away by glamour and they are voting for the development, which is a very good sign. Chiranjeevi’s defeat in Palakollu, his hometown serves as a big lesson to other film stars. Even his charisma and success in filmdom could not be translated into political success, Subba Rao stated.

The highlight of the election this year is that the Praja Rajyam Party received a severe beating and thankfully its founder and president Chiranjeevi is among the 18 legislators elected to the assembly. The megastar is representing Tirupati, the temple town where he launched his party in August last year. As most of them are aware, he lost from Palakollu, his hometown in West Godavari district.

The noted Kannada movie maker and journo Kavitha Lankesh said that film stars may pull in large crowds during election meetings and rallies, but they cannot guarantee votes. Most of them gather to have a glimpse of the stars and that’s where the story begins and ends. In the south, Film stars are the demigods to millions of people and the Indian cinema also happens to be the world’s biggest film industry. Their popularity was particularly felt in the South, where huge cutouts are displayed at busy junctions, and fans are often seen performing special poojas at temples dedicated to them.

The Telugu thespian, N T Rama Rao, who founded the Telugu Desam Party, could make it big because the entire film industry was solidly behind him. His call for Telugu Atmagauravam (self-respect) became a wave that swept away the Congress. Down south in Tamilnaud, M G Ramachandran’s hero worship was at its peak. MGR, who had the demigod image, could easily cash in on the trend and emerge as a successful leader. These were the views from the noted TV serial director and playwright T N Seetharam. Incidentally, he also contested and lost the 1999 Assembly elections from Gauribidanur, his hometown.

In Karnataka, no film star has struck gold in politics. According to many political experts, Ambareesh’s political career has been the showcase to the fate of movie-idols-turned-politicians in the state. Ambarish was once the minister of state for information and broadcasting and he also has the distinction of being among three Karnataka MPs who did not utter a word throughout his term. Subba Rao said that Ambareesh had a hold over the people of Mandya and Mysore because of his caste. With Shashikumar also, it was his caste and not his star image that played a major role when he won the parliamentary polls in 1999. This gives an idea as to how the caste factor plays a major role.

Overall, it has become crystal clear that film stars are fit only for the glamour and the entertainment purpose. It takes a true leader to actually lead the people and the nation to a prosperous future.

Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi is trying to keep as cooler as possible and is trying to infuse a sort of enthusiasm in the cadres, which are thoroughly disappointed with the party’s performance in the elections.

Chiranjeevi is telling the party leaders and cadres who are coming to meet him to take the people’s verdict as a lesson so that they all should make efforts to strengthen the party in the next five years.

“Don’t worry. We have got 18 seats. Now, we have to think how we make it 10 times more in the next five years,” Chiru is telling the party leaders.

According to PRP sources, Chiranjeevi is contemplating on shedding the dead wood and cleanse the party at all levels. The primary focus is to build up the party from grassroot levels. “We have to follow the Telugu Desam model in building up the organisation at all levels,” the PRP president told the party functionaries.

Prajarajyam president K Chiranjeevi on Monday was formally elected leader of Prajarajyam Legislature Party.

The party president interacted with the newly elected legislators, most of them first-timers, for a little over two hours. The party won 18 assembly seats in the recently concluded elections and is the second largest opposition party after the TDP. The party has a lone member in the Legislative Council, B Raghavendra Reddy.

One of the legislators, who shared details of the PRLP meeting, said the party had resolved to play a constructive role in Assembly by encouraging the government on issues that are of help to the masses and strongly oppose any kind of anti-people policies. “Our criticism will be constructive and all issues of social concern would be accorded top priority,” he told them.

The elected members informed Chiranjeevi that the legislature party would abide by all decisions taken by the PRLP president. The PRP chief meanwhile assured members that he would take them into confidence while reviewing reasons for the failure of the party in the recently-concluded elections. Chiranjeevi told them that he was in possession of voting statistics that reflect the performance of the party at the polling booth level.

Later, Chiranjeevi introduced the newly elected members to the media and thanked people for helping them to create a political space. “We have been elected by the people to solve their problems and we will just do that,” he said and added that the names of the party whip and secretary would be announced very soon.

Those present at the meeting included Elleti Maheshwar Reddy (Nirmal), Anil Eravathri (Balkonda), Bandaru Satyanand Rao (Kothapeta), Ganta Srinivasa Rao (Anakapalli), Muttam Srinivas Rao alias Avanthi Srinivas (Bheemili), Chintalapudi Venkatramayya (Gajuwaka), Panchakarla Ramesh (Pendurthi), Kurasala Kanna Babu (Kakinada Rural), Pantham Gandhi Mohan (Peddapuram), Eeli Nani (Tadepalligudem), Yellampalli Srinivas (Vijayawada West), Yelamanchili Ravi (Vijayawada East), A Rambabu (Giddaluru), Sridhar Krishna Reddy Mungamuru (Nellore City), Bhuma Sobha Nagi Reddy (Allagadda) and Vanga Geeta (Pithapuram). The lone PRP MLA who could not make it to the meeting was Katasani Rami Reddy from Banaganapalle, as he was pre-occupied with some work in his constituency.

Meanwhile, the political affairs committee meeting of PRP was indefinitely postponed as several senior leaders were away in districts.

Sources say that from the last few weeks the candidates those have bought tickets from Allu Aravind got doubts and are running behind him to pay back as they would like to withdraw. Even after the election they have forced Aravind to give back at least some percentage of their money as they are not sure of winning.

Grapevine says that then Chiranjeevi has come into scene and said, “Don’t worry. Even if you lose in your constituency, we are coming to power and forming government. You will be given good contracts and your money will always be safe”.

But now the result is out and Allu Aravind himself lost the game fully. We have to see if Allu Aravind gives back the money or runs away, says a victim of Rs 1.5 Cr from Ongole.

Anil Reddy, who contested from Adilabad as PRP candidate took Rs 1 Cr for 2% interest and bought the ticket. He already spent Rs 50 lakh from his pocket. He thought that the ticket is confirmed free of cost as he is close to Allu Aravind. But in the last moment Allu demanded Rs 1 Cr and hence Anil had to go for getting that for interest. Now he lost interest on PRP and is also struggling to pay interest for Rs 1 Cr as well. Even Anil is with anguish and looking if Aravind pays back at least some amount, say sources.

Prajarajyam president K Chiranjeevi on Sunday came under a scathing attack from his former aide Parakala Prabhakar, with the latter accusing him of forcing candidates to part with their movable and immovable assets in return for a ticket of the party.

Addressing a crowded media conference, Parakala, who quit PRP a month ago accusing it of functioning like a company, said that the PRP bosses owed people of Andhra Pradesh a public apology. He said his allegations against the PRP bosses before he quit the party were vindicated by the poor mandate to the party. He also said that Saturday’s verdict was a slap on the face of people who tried to hoodwink the voter through their theatrical performances.

He said people in Telangana, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra buried PRP in the elections without a trace as they could see the hidden agenda of the PRP bosses. This verdict would also deter any other actor from taking to politics with an ulterior motive. “Bosses who thought they would be voted because of their glamour have been shown their place in real life,” he said.

Parakala alleged that PRP bosses forced aspirants to part with their movable and immovable assets like finances, plots, houses, land parcels and cinema halls in return for a ticket of the party. “The day is not far away when you will hear news about people asking PRP bosses to return their respective properties that were forcibly taken away from them. I personally feel that the PRP bosses will return these assets if candidates who feel cheated insist for the same at the earliest, as there have been instances wherein they have returned money to candidates after failing to allot a seat to them,” he pointed out.

Parakala said Chiranjeevi was suffering from a disorder which psychiatrists describe as an illusion of grandeur, wherein people start to feel that they are able to visualize the shape of things to come according to their wishes. “It takes only six months for him to get cured,” he pointed out.

Parakala said the election results showed that PRP’s edifice was built on deceit and mistrust. “Personal agenda was of paramount importance to PRP, hence they were rejected at the hustings,” he said.

Urging the PRP bosses to do a thorough introspection, Parakala suggested them to approach the Registrar of Companies to register and later shut it down in the interests of the people of Andhra Pradesh. They (PRP bosses) neither cared for the candidates nor received their phones all through the elections. “The ones who could win was only because of their respective personal charisma and efforts,” he said.

Major irrigation minister P Lakshmaiah, who won with a wafer-thin margin of 44 votes may lose his cabinet post, sources said. Lakshmaiah may be considered for the post of the PCC chief. The possibility of making him the Assembly Speaker also cannot be discounted.

YSR will also have to search for a suitable Muslim candidate to replace energy minister Mohd Shabbir Ali who lost the polls. Among the new faces who are likely to be inducted into the cabinet are chief whip N Kiran Kumar Reddy, D Sridhar Babu, D L Ravindra Reddy, B Usharani (another giant killer from Palakollu who defeated Chiranjeevi) and K Rambhupal Reddy from Panyam in Kurnool district. However, the selection of the aspirants would have to be based on the caste and regional equations, party sources said.

The Congress Legislature Party is likely to meet on Monday to elect YSR as the leader. He is expected to take oath as CM on May 20 and leave for Bethlehem on May 23 on pilgrimage.

Reddy is scheduled to return on May 30 after which the Assembly would meet for a fullfledged budget session in the first week of June.

It is now clear that Kapus of the region have indeed backed Chiranjeevi’s Prajarajyam Party so blindly but that did not ensure the party to come out with flying colours at the hustings. The PRP candidates though lost the elections have polled between 15-50 thousand votes. The only factor that seemed to have gone against Chiru’s party is that it lacked support from other communities such as BCs, SCs and minorities.

It is evident from the fact that all the three candidates, who won the election for PRP in the region are non-Kapus. While two of them are Vysyas, the other is a Kamma. The Kapu leaders, who considered themselves strong, have lost the elections because they run the show only around Kapu voters whereas the victorious leaders had the support from other communities in addition to the Kapu votes.

The PRP nominees have virtually played spoilsport with many of the Congress candidates in Krishna district. For instance, minister Mandali Budhaprasad lost the election at Avanigadda with a thin margin of just 417 votes where the PRP candidate Ramesh polled 37,656 votes. Here the TDP nominee Ambati Bramhanaiah turned victorious only because of the backing of BCs.

Another minister Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao lost the election to TDP’s Kodali Nani at Gudivada with a margin of about 17,000 votes where the PRP candidate polled about 21,000 votes. Though former Congress legislators and PRP’s Buragadda Vedavyas and Vangaveeti Radhakrishna secured 35,000 and 51,000 votes respectively, they could not snatch victories due to the drifting away of other community votes.

Vedavyas jumped the fence only a few weeks before the polls to PRP and contested from Machilipatnam constituency. His migration to the all-new Machilipatnam constituency seems to have not got the acceptance of the other communities in the constituency as they believe that he shifted to Machilipatnam from his native Pedana (previously he represented Malleswaram) only keeping in view of the strong Kapu vote base in the port town.

Curiously, Vedavyas came third way behind TDP’s Kollu Ravindra, a BC. Nani won the seat with a majority of 11,399 votes. In all, the PRP polled a good 4,78,774 votes in Krishna district but it returned with only two assembly seats out of the 16 at stake. While the ruling Congress secured seven seats with 9.02 lakh votes, TDP too bagged an equal number of seats with 9.14 lakh votes.

Except for the lightweight PRP nominee at Jaggiahapet, Kota Kishore who got 2043, all others -B Ramu (Gannavaram-19,806), R V Rao (Gudivada-21,582), K Srinivas (Kaikalur-49,372), M Veerraju (Pedana-29,172), M Mohan Rao (Pamarru-23,438), M Vijayanirmala (Nuziveedu-24,786), D Mohan (Penamalur-31,868) polled handsome votes.

Even in Guntur new faces like M Sudhakar (Macherla-16,368), T Venkatesh (Ponnur-30,247), K Vijayakumar (Narasaraopet-17,220), D Chakravarthi (Sattenapalle-25,522), Katti Padma Rao (Vemur-23,300), Santhi Jyothi (Tadikonda-15,969) and Seetharamaiah (Bapatla-15,911) secured good votes.
